Volunteering with the Chicago Kayak and the Chicago Kayak Club
This is a list for members of the Club to aid them in planning events

What can you do?

Earth Day is our biggest Volunteer Project each year. We always need 2-3 key people to take the lead on this event, from advertising, to organizing, to project management.  On average we have 125 participants in this event.

Represent the classes and club at local events - the REI Paddle Demo Days, Paddle in the Park and others - we set up tables, hand out brochures and answer questions. These are fun days to promote safety and instruction and club events while meeting new paddlers!

Help with Classes
Instructors can always use an extra set of hands.  Members are free to attend class and help load and unload boats, help the students adjust foot pegs, unload and reload gear, and be an extra set of eyes and ears on the water.

Lead a Club Paddle - Leaders, Co- Leaders and Trip Assistants are all vital to making the club run smoothly.  When making your rsvp with Goldie, please indicate that you can help with an outing.

Organize our Spring/Season Opener or Holiday/End of Season Party

Help Austin with our At Risk Youth Program - in conjunction with the Evanston Police Dept. This program gets local children out on the water and we meet every few weeks throughout the summer to provide sea kayak training to this group.

Help with our Women's Program.  Are you a recent graduate of the Chicago Kayak 3 week women's sea kayaking program?  If so, come to some classes and help the new students get familiar with this great sport.

Steps
1. Research your idea
2. Contact us to discuss a date
3. Write up a description of your event and send it to me for inclusion in the web site.
This should include when and where, how to get there, -anything people need to know.
4. Send your event to our e-mail list (full description)
5. Give people an e-mail so they can rsvp to you
6. Send out another announcement a few days to a week before your event to remind people.
7.  Be at the location early so you can greet people.

Want to get started!  Lead a trip that you have done before or go to an area you are familiar with.  Many of our members are not from this area, so almost all of it is new!  You can start as small or large as you like!

Let us know what you are planning and go for it!
