Mississippi
Palisades

Savanah, IL ( 3 hours W. of Chicago)
Sept 26th
Why Go?
The Mississippi is one of the world's greatest rivers
and is located in our back yard! Paddle Boats,
Barges, and full of wildlife, you can see it all.
Hike the bluffs on trails more than a thousand years
old, These lofty bluffs are often used by rock climbers!
We will be camping at the Mississippi Palisades State
Park the night before, feel free to join us camping
should you want to arrive early. (A National Natural Landmark), which is at the
confluence of the Mississippi and Apple Rivers. 15
miles of hiking trails, cliffs and caves abound!
The kayaking is superb - nary a person to be found - we
are always pleasantly surprised at the peacefulness and
beauty that is found here. Many of the areas we
will paddle will have water depths of under 3 feet, too
shallow for the bigger boats, so we have the place to
ourselves.
Skill Level
This is an excellent beginner trip. The River where we
will be primarily paddling is calm and beautiful.
When we do this trip, we rarely encounter others on the
water other than the Heron and Beaver of course!
This is also a great spot to try out your gear if you
are new to camping. There are stores nearby if you have
forgotten anything.
Clothing - We will
provide wetsuits and paddle jackets for those who
request it in advance. If you have your own, please
bring that! Please bring plenty of long layers for
hiking, paddling and sitting around the campfire (if you
come early to camp).
Cost: $100 -
includes kayaks, pfd's, paddles, and all kayak related
safety gear
