Earth Day 2006
This year, we had great weather and much enthusiasm! Our biggest Earth Day Clean Up to Date, thru the hard work of many volunteers and organizations.
I am amazed to say, that of the 82 people who signed in, approximately half were under the age of 18. We had volunteers from the following clubs and organizations:
Forest Preserve District of Cook County Illinois Paddling Council Recreational Equipment Inc.
Prairie State Canoeists Chicago Area Sea Kayakers Assoc. Chicago Kayak Club
Great Lakes Kayaks Abbott Lab Canoe Club Omni Intervention
In addition, there were many private volunteers from local companies, youth groups, scout troops, and families.
We used most of the 250 garbage bags that were dropped off for us, and had piles and piles of garbage for the FPDCC to collect. Bottles, beer cans, tires, even a fender was pulled out of the woods. Even through we have done all this work, there is still much left to do.
This clean up, is part of our ongoing effort to clean up the Lagoons, for us as padders and outdoor enthusiasts, but more importantly for the animals who call the Lagoons their home.
A hearty Thank You for all who came out to help.
