Chicago Kayak Earth Day 2008 Skokie Lagoons -  April 20th 9am-noon
This year Earth Day falls on a Tue, but we will do our clean up on the Sun before - our clean up, scheduled for 9:00am un, April 20th will be better than ever!  Gloves, pick sticks and garbage bags provided courtesy of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.  Please join us. Have a canoe or kayak? You can bring that and do your clean up from the water's edge.  We will also have boats to borrow too, first come first serve.  Lots of trash on land, so you don't need to be on the water to help!  Bring your kids, brothers and sisters, coworkers, anyone who wants to make a difference!

2007- we had 123 Volunteers!

Thank you to 2006 Volunteers

This is a recap of 2005 Earth Day.

Well kayaking on Earth Day 2005 turned out to be cold and blustery, Mother Nature showed us no kindness this morning!  It was in the low 30's and we had 25 mile and hour wind gusts. When the snow started, we all thought "at least it is not rain and sleet!"

We had 45 kayakers, canoeists, and hikers show up for our Earth Day event at the Skokie Lagoons in Glencoe.  Because of the cold temps and high winds, many opted for land based clean up.

REI was there, they had donated staff hours, lunch, water, and volunteer T-shirts.  We can't thank them enough for their support! Petrick Designs donated water for everyone and handiwipes for clean up.  We also had volunteers from Chicago Kayak Club, The Prairie State Canoeists, Northwest Passage, and the Illinois Paddling Council.

We would also like to thank the Forest Preserve District of Cook County for allowing us to "adopt" the lagoons through their Preserve Keeper Corp Program, and providing grabbers, trash bags, and gloves.
