Chicago Kayak Conservation, Donations, and Kayak Volunteer Projects

At Chicago Kayak, we are heavily involved in caring for our surroundings as well as our communities.  This is a listing of current activities and past!  We always welcome volunteers so if you would like to donate some time to one of our kayaking projects, please contact us at chicagokayak@comcast.net or call 847.425.9925.

Skokie Lagoons Adopted: This is an ongoing project, in
partnership with the Forest Preserve of Cook County.
We have been members of the Preserve Keeper Corp.
since 2004. This program is similar to the "adopt a mile"
program on highways. We have adopted the Skokie
Lagoons, and not only monitor wildlife and conservation
issues, but do quarterly cleanups.  From our big Earth
Day clean up, to smaller, more frequent outings, we try
and keep the area clean of debris.

Want to know more about the Lagoons? Check out our
Skokie Lagoons Page which contains photos, history,
and wildlife information. View our Chicago Kayak Earth Day
2005 report and photos.

Want to kayak the Skokie Lagoons? Most of our classes
are taught here!  Already know how to kayak? Join our
Club

We offer classes almost every weekend, from Introductory, to Intermediate, Women's Groups, and Children's Programs. Our club outings are weekly, sometimes early morning, mid afternoon, or evening.  Weekdays or weekends, we are out here all the time!

Partnership with Evanston Police Dept
Donation: We currently donate a portion of our proceeds to the Evanston Police Social Services Bureau to benefit Victims of Domestic Abuse.
Volunteer: We have a program for children who work with Social Services.  They are offered free kayak instruction and time paddling on a weekly basis.  We donate our equipment and time, Social Services provides transport and officers who enjoy working with children.

Charity Auctions/Donations:
We frequently donate certificates for Intro to Kayaking or a Chicago Kayak Club membership to charities for silent auctions and fundraisers. They are for medical, children, or educational purposes.

We have helped the following charities:
Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine $130 in certificates
Chicago Public Schools: Edison Regional Gifted Center $130 in Certificates
Nagata-Yamauchi Educational Fund $100 for computer equipment
Mt. Sinai Hospital "Chicago Sizzles with the Blues" Silent Auction $65 in certificates
Trina Fund $130 in certificates
