Alaksa 2006 Trip Planning Site

Kayak in Alaska, a wild and beautiful place!  Whales, bears, moose, sea otters, seals, it is all there if you know
where to go.  We will fly into Anchorage and a short distance to Whittier where we will paddle Prince William Sound.  We will spend
two days and one night in this area, then head down to Seward head to Seward for 3 days in Resurrection Bay .

Our first trip meeting (for those who have signed up) will take place March 14th.
We expect to meet once again in June, then right before we leave.  All meetings will be mandatory.

Requirements
:
Membership: Chicago Kayak Club Members only
Paddling Experience: Intermediate/Advanced - you will have taken Intro to Kayaking as well as an Intermediate Course or
have the equivalent skills. In addition to the skills learned in class, you should have plenty of on water experience as well.
Common sense and the ability to handle stressful situations is essential.  Rescues should be second nature.
In addition, you feel comfortable out on the open water and in conditions of waves and wind in remote areas.
We may encounter grizzlies and moose and other hazardous wildlife.   This will be a very different area from last years trip.

Deposit
: A non-refundable deposit of $250 to reserve kayaks and campsites/cabins.

Transportation
You will be responsible for getting yourself to Anchorage at the designated time and getting yourself
home (round trip tickets are pretty inexpensive if you buy them in advance)  All other costs of hotels, car rental or
ferry's will be split equally between the group

Paddling Gear
- We will be renting in Alaska.  If you don't already own a dry suit, start shopping for one - you might get a
good sale. Additionally they will be for rent in AK.
Personal Gear - you are responsible for your own clothing, tents, camping gear, food etc.
Any questions, please contact us
Wilderness Experience - you should have experience and be comfortable in very remote areas where contact
with the outside world is limited at best.
Goals- You should be easy going and be flexible in your attitude. The group will determine the daily itinerary while
on the water - we will be taking each day as it comes. This is going to be laid back and relaxing - if this is not what
you are looking for, then this trip is not for you.
