Chicago Kayak Instruction - Sea Kayaking Instruction in Chicago and the general Chicagoland area for all skills!  All beginners sea kayak courses are in the Skokie Lagoons, our more advanced kayak classes are on Lake Michigan.
Excellent instructors, and exceptional sea kayaks and gear. 

  • Beginner Sea Kayaking Classes held April thru November at the Skokie Lagoons
  • Kayaks, paddles, and Personal Floatation Devices provided
  • When appropriate, wet suits and paddle jackets are also included

    Buying this as a gift for someone else?  When you check out, under date write in "GIFT CERTIFICATE" this will purchase the class, but but allow you (or the recipient)  to select the date at a later time.

  • Introduction to Sea Kayaking:

    Cost : $75   Length 4 hours  Location: Skokie Lagoons (forest preserve) Directions and Pictures    Class FAQ

    This class is for beginners or those who would like a refresher!   This is an easy, fun class and a great way to get acquainted with kayaking in a beautiful wildlife area 30 minutes north of Chicago. You will learn the basic skills to have fun and be safe!

    This class is a prerequisite to our membership club
    When you are a member of the Chicago Kayak Club, you can attend any of our local weekly local outings for free - gear and kayaks are included - no need for rentals - you can practice with us for 12 months for only $100.  Visit our membership page for more info (now back to class stuff)

    What we cover:

    • Gear needed - full description of what you need, how to use it, and where to buy it!
    • Kayak Design - picking the boat that is best for you whether you are buying or rent them on vacation. Learn what to look for and how to not get a dud!
    • Stretching (on land and in your boat out on the water) a great way to warm up those muscles!
    • Safety Procedures - what precautions should you take
    • Strokes - tour, sweep, reverse sweep, and draw strokes
    • Hip Snap/J- lean
    • T- Rescues/Wet Exit- learn how to get out of your boat and back into your boat after a capsize.
    • Low Brace

Cancellations for local classes must be made one full week in advance to reschedule or get a refund. FL classes and trips are NON REFUNDABLE - be sure before you register!
