Sea Kayaking in Kachemak Bay

Tutka Lagoon
Water Taxi from Homer

Day 1
Meet at Anchorage Airport (Ted Stevens) by 3 pm.
Stop at REI and a Grocery Store then drive to Hope (approx
3 hours)
Camp out or stay in hostel/cabin in the Hope area
(both indoor and camping situations are available)
Day 2
Early rise, drive to Chugach Outdoor Center for a
day of whitewater rafting- drive that night to Homer
and camp in a beautiful meadow or use indoor lodging
at a locally run hostel on the same property.
Last year the group was split between campers and
indoor folks, but all said later, they would have
preferred to camp because it was so beautiful (see
photo lower down on the left side)
Day 3
arrive Homer Port by 10am for water taxi
to Kachemak Bay State Park
Land in Tutka Cove, either camp or stay in the yurt
Set up camp
Paddle to Tutka Bay Lagoons, have lunch, hike and
lay in the sun- be back at camp by 9pm
Campfire at night7am
Day 4

-Early start Paddle to Kayak Beach (about 4.5
miles) , break for bathroom stop, then head out into
the racing waters of Eldred Passage and into Sadie
Cove for an additional 2 miles, Prepare lunch while
we are out, collect water to filter before turning
back. (Approx miles covered for the day 14-15)
Day 5-6
Morning Free - paddle, hike, pack up
2pm - Water Taxi return us to Homer. Unload gear and
kayaks
4:30 Dinner at Spit Fire Grill Homer Spit Road,
Homer, AK 99603 Camp in Anchor Point, AK on
the Beach - Cook Inlet - with views of Mt Illiana
and Mt. Redoubt
Day 7

Drive to Seward
Set up Camp at Exit Glacier
Into Town for lunch at
Visit the Sea Life Center
Return to Camp and hike 3 miles of the Resurrection
River Trail- Visit the Exit Glacier and also the
river, watch pieces of ice come down the river -
delicate alpine setting, with plenty of big animals
about. Many moose in this area.
Day 8 Drive to Anchorage-
spend the day touring downtown Anchorage and then depart for
Chicago after 7pm. \ |
